With all the attention on getting Search Engine Optimization or SEO right for our websites, how are we expected to learn to do it? Obviously, it doesn’t just happen and some sort of learning needs to occur. Does this mean that we need to undergo formal training for it? Not exactly but here are some important things to remember.
SEO Can Be Learned
Anyone who is serious about maintaining a website or blog should really put some effort in learning SEO. This is not only because it is needed but also because it can be learned. There are SEO experts but it is always advantageous to have some personal knowledge and experience about it rather than being fully dependent on another’s expertise.
Where Do We Go to Learn SEO?
There are actually two options for people who want to learn about SEO. We can choose to train with an expert face-to-face or online. The main advantage of the former is that nothing can be more hands-on as being able to ask while we are attempting to do decent SEO under the direct guidance of an expert. The latter option also provides a way to ask but answers are usually not immediate. That can be very limiting for any person wanting to learn.
SEO is something that is learned while actually doing it and seeing the direct results of it. It is not something we memorize to get it right. It has to be done.
What Needs to Be Learned in SEO
The main goal of doing SEO on our sites is for readers to find them and hopefully get impressed enough to stay awhile and come back. In order for us to make this happen, we need to learn how to do it. That is where knowledge of SEO becomes vital.
We need to learn how our websites get to be crawled by search engines. We need to know how our websites will rank favorably in search results. We need to have some knowledge of using the right keywords (oh yes, these words can still pack a punch). We need to understand how to link with authority sites. And yes, we need to learn what kind of content will keep our readers coming back for more.
What to Expect from SEO Trainers
It is quite reasonable to expect that SEO trainers should know what they are talking about. They need to have studied it, done it, and have extensive experience in it. One important thing to remember is to choose one that is willing to answer questions. After all, you are paying him to teach you.
